THREE DOSHA THEORY

The science of Ayurveda discipline on a theory that universe is made of five primordial elements or 'Butha's, namely earth, air, fire, water and ether. These elements themselves are life-less, but in combination, produce three main biological forces or doshas in the human body, called Vaata, Pitta, and Kapha.

Ayurveda heals us by bringing back into balance of the doshas according to our balance at our birth then symptoms of dis-eased are reversed and disappeared. Unlike western medicine approach Ayurveda heals the body, mind and spirit as a whole and once in balance you will begin to experience life as an effortless and harmonious journey. Air and Ether , Warm food, moderately heavy textures, added butter and fat; salt, sour, and sweet tastes; soothing and satisfying foods. All are good for settling the disturbed Vata. Use food such as: warm milk, cream, butter, warm soups, stews, and hot cereals, fresh baked.

    Vatha Body Structure :
  • Slender frame
  • Lightweight bone structure
  • Dry,rough or dark skin
  • Brown / Black hair coloring
  • Large, crooked or protruding teeth, thin gums
  • Small thin lips and mouth
  • Dull, dark eyes
    Vatha Characteristics:
  • Often constipated
  • Little perspiration
  • Sparse urine (although frequent)
  • Poor long-term memory

  • Anxious, nervous, depression
  • High sex drive (or none at all)
  • Love of travel
  • Dislike of cold weather
  • Slight to variable appetite

Fire and a small amount of water, which regulates the body metabolism and transformations in the body's form. Cool or warm but not steaming hot foods; bitter, sweet, and astringent tastes, are what are perfect for this body type. Take cool, refreshing food in summer. Reduce the consumption of salt, oil and spices, all of which are "heating" to the body. Salads are good, so is milk and ice cream.

  • Loose stools / diarrhea
  • Strong appetite
  • Thirsty

Water and Earth In its role as a lubricant to different tissues of the body, which also aids strength and adds stamina to the body. Warm light food, dry food, cooked without much water, minimum of butter, oil and sugar are recommended for this body type. Stimulating foods with pungent, bitter and astringent tastes and deep fried foods are best avoided. Eat lightly cooked foods or raw fruits and vegetables. 'Eat' spicy bitter and astringent foods.

  • Thick and pale-colored oily skin

  • Blue Eyes
  • Full lips / Large mouth

  • Speaks in slow monotone
  • Requires deep sleep
  • Steady appetite
  • Heavy sweating
  • Large soft stools
  • Business oriented
  • Good memory

  • Dislikes cold and damp
  • Loves good food
  • Enjoys familiar surroundings
